It’s that time of year again. The weather starts to cool down, the air outside becomes crisp, and the leaves begin to turn on the trees. We open the holiday season up with all things spooky and scary as we celebrate Halloween.
Typically, this time of year we don’t focus on traveling or vacations away from the home, instead we focus on staying home more, decorating the house, or finding the best way to scare people if you’re anything like me.
But, if the travel bug within you is itching like crazy for some place to get away where you will not lose the Halloween Spirit, then may I suggest to you 3 scary places you can visit where you will surely get a thrill. Now before I go into these, please keep in mind that if you choose to visit any of these destinations, you do so at your own risk!
We just returned from Mexico, but we were in Cancun, not much Halloween spirit there except some Day of the Dead decorations in our Hotel, but if you want to get a thrill, look no further then Mexico’s Isla De Las Muñecas, which translated to Island of the Dolls. The Island’s name describes the island, it is an island of dolls hanging from the trees.
Legend has it that a man living on the island encountered a girl who was drowning and he was unable to save her. He found her doll nearby where she drowned and out of respect, he hung it on the tree. He felt the spirit of her ghost haunting him through the doll and decided to hang up more dolls to try to appease her spirit. Before he knew it, the entire island was filled up with dolls hanging from trees. He died in the same way she did and in 2001 the island was opened to tourists.
Tourists who have visited this enchanted island claim they can hear voices coming from the dolls and that some of the dolls open their eyes and even move an arm or a leg. CREEPY!
This place is a church, very much like a Cathedral, except the decor, the chandeliers, and the walls are adorned with skulls and bones. Now that’s pretty creative and artistic isn’t it? What if I told you they were human bones and skulls?
Now you might be wondering where these bones come from. Were these bones of people that were murdered? Not at all. People chose to be buried in the cemetery there because holy soil from Israel was poured over the grounds, the problem was, everybody and their brother wanted to be buried there and they ran out of space, so they stored the bones in the church. After a while they decided to adorn the inside of this church with these skeletons and skulls. Most of us choose to be buried when we die, others of us choose to be cremated, these people had their bones turned into decorations.
Some people claim the place is haunted and they get a feeling of dread while touring the inside, while others claim that it’s very unique and strangely peaceful. How about you? How would you feel visiting a church of human bones? Comment below!
Do you like clowns? I love clowns, I don’t know why, probably because so many people don’t? If you are looking for a place to have fun in a fun house/clown theme, look no further than Tonopah, Nevada and book your reservation today at the Clown Motel.
It’s a lot of fun, and it’s right next to a cemetery. You can tour the cemetery, and sleep in the comfort of your hotel room filled with clowns!
