Some of the best tourist attractions to visit in Europe are old Cathedrals. This is especially true in Barcelona Spain, the home of the one of the most unique and beautiful Cathedrals in the world. You will have a hard time finding any cathedral as original as La Sagrada Familia and you will certainly not find a cathedral that’s taller than La Sagrada Familia as it is the tallest Cathedral in the world.
The architect who originally designed the cathedral is named Francisco de Paula del Villar, who then turned the project over to Antoni Gaudí, who then added his own artistic flair to the cathedral. Construction on the cathedral began in 1882 and is still going today over a century later. It is scheduled to be finished around the year 2026.
You can and should tour La Sagrada Familia. It is recommended that you book in advance as the tours do sell out, especially during peak season. There are a few tourist companies you can connect with to tour the inside and outside of the Cathedral. Tours can be booked through agencies Viator, Expedia, and many local tour agencies. The tours are offered in a few languages such as English, Spanish, Catalan, and French. The price of the tour is not too expensive, but can get costly if you are taking your family. If you are visiting other sights in Barcelona, I recommend booking La Sagrada Familia with other tourist attractions such as Park Guell or Casa Batlló as you will receive a bulk discount.
The outside of the Cathedral displays several images and statues depicting the life of Christ from birth until crucifixion. The Architecture looks skeletal and features a few large towers.
The inside features very high ceilings, towering pillars, and an amazing array of stained glass windows.
