Tibble Fork Reservoir, Utah

Despite Salt Lake City’s high elevation, it is a high desert and summers are hot, very often hovering around 100° F (38°C) during the day. So, if you’re anything like me, the heat gets old after several weeks and you really want to take a break, but you don’t want to travel too far either.

The good news is that the mountains are very close no matter where you are in the Salt Lake Valley or Utah Valley, you can escape and drive less than an hour to a higher elevation and cooler temperatures.

Tibble Fork Reservoir is very close to the cities of Highland and Alpine, Utah. All you have to do is take Highway 92 east and up the canyon. When prompted by the signs, you turn left and drive a way until you arrive.

The elevation is higher and the temperature is a good 15 to 20 degrees cooler than the valley and it is a beautiful small lake surrounded by pine trees and beautiful nature.

There are a few activities you can partake of while visiting Tibble Fork. Some activities include:

  • Swimming
  • Boating
  • Fishing
  • Photography
  • Videography
  • Relaxing

Here’s what we did:

We left home in the early afternoon around 1:30:

We drove up American Fork Canyon between some beautiful hills and trees. It’s amazing how much the scenery changes after ascending up in the mountains from the Deserty Valley.

After driving for some time, we arrived at Tibble Fork UT. It was overcast and ready to storm, but at the same time, it all went together perfectly. The beauty of this place is amazing.

Then after we set up the tent are started eating our picnic lunch. Thunder struck and it started to pour………..Then it started to hail. We got more than we bargained for, not only was it not hot here as it was in the valley, with this storm it actually got a little cold outside and we wrapped ourselves in our towels in our tent.

As usual in Utah, the thunderstorm came and went. The sun came out and everything dried out very fast and we were back in business. We took the blow up boat into the water and paddled around the lake.

The water temperature was a bit cool, but not overwhelmingly cold, so the kids really enjoyed their time swimming.

As you can see in the pictures, this is a fun and beautiful lake, and a great way to escape the heat in the valley. We stayed in this park until almost 7pm because we were having so much fun!
